Choice

Fortune Cookies

Fortune cookie aphorisms inspired these small format collages; playing with their messages, each work is constructed from snippets of fortune cookie proverbs and treasured scraps of memorabilia from China India to Bhutan. Cut, torn, spliced and pasted onto eclectic backgrounds, this series evolved from my 1980s series, a commentary on my first Asian explorations shown at Sid Deutsch gallery in NYC.

MS Collages

Ms. collage series is created from my archive of Ms. magazines. Each work is a single issue using only its printed content collaged onto its cover. All MS Collages are on arches archival 22"x15" paper.

What keeps me awake.

Widderwoman in Meditation

Feelings of loss through drawings.

The Five Stages with Distractions

Moments in Time

Individual works, not in series, inspired by a single event. A travel experience or feeling that needed visual expression.

Silk Road Colored Pencil & Oil on Canvas Series

Fantasy Garden

Giclees & Original Colored Pencil Fantasy Drawings

Created in My New Light-filled Studio in Hells Kitchen.

Tu-Fu

Tu-Fu (712-770 A.D. ) wrote: The nations may topple, but the mountains and rivers that remain, inspire this vibrant vigorous palette knife series. As in Chinese scroll paintings, travel through the work into the glorious realm of the inscrutable east.

East Meets West

Poetry and wisps of historic tales inspire these colorful stories in large format. They span the political to the romantic and fanciful. Painted in oil on canvas or gouache on paper, some have collage elements while others allow me to draw in paint.

Figures

Symbols for man and woman in Chinese. Cavorting characters playfully romp, battle, and do the dance of life. Pencil or oil stick, each challenges the viewer's imagination in new ways. The pencil is subtle but powerful- the oil stick is out there!

COVID Home Studio Collages and drawings

All COVID home studio collages & drawings are on arches archival 22"x15" paper. All drawings are derived from images of women in forms of goddesses & cultural dolls collected during my world travels. The silk road and far east have had an immense influence on my work.

Peru

Wandering high in the lost ancient city of Machu Picchu and experiencing the vibrant, sacred landscapes of the Andes with its extreme altitude and glorious colors. The rugged trails and steep windy paths bring the traveler back to the Inca’s glorious past.

Landscapes

Pencil play with Chinese words creates a landscape of sensual pleasure for the imagination. Complicated, with twists and turns, they mirror the journey through the hills and valleys of life. The more you look, the more you see. Pencil is the perfect vehicle for these intense drawings.

Goddesses

Created from the Chinese character for woman, Goddesses become a pencil play of erotic and sexual energy, a commentary on my passion for life and the condition of women, as feminsim has undulated and evolved through my lifetime.
